The Love Evolution Continues… by Emmy-Koos Meijer

Join us as Emmy-Koos adds to her Love Evolution piece live with the addition of her new romantic partner. 

Love Evolution is a simplified visualisation of Emmy-Koos’ love life from 2015 to spring 2022, and will now grow into the present. 

The x (or ex) -axis is the timeline and the y (or why) -axis represents the degree of impact of a relationship. The colors have been chosen intuitively, based on the personality and taste of the corresponding (ex) lovers.

The graph includes particularly intimate poems and songs, written by Emmy-Koos, at the time of the relationships. These add personal details, sensitivity and sex where the graph falls short in its two-dimensionality. The installation is an attempt at something impossible; putting the human experience into a mathematical model. Every relationship has at least two participants and therefore two sides. This is only an imperfect representation of one side of the coin.

More interesting than a perfect representation of history are the questions the work raises, such as:

When is a relationship a relationship?

What do you define as sex?

What would your love life look like, if you would make a graph of it?

During the creative process, Emmy-Koos gained new insights into her relationship patterns, her choice of partners, and unprocessed emotions. In addition to her work as an artist, illustrator and guest teacher, she is also a certified relationship coach.
