About the event:
Toqueur is thrilled to present Alberto Calero López with his 'Journeys' Exhibition featuring three distinct series: Blue Studies, Deconstructions, and Gradients. Each series delves into unique themes and showcases Alberto's exploration of colour, form, and memory.
In Blue Studies, Alberto examines the complexities of the colour blue through the male form. As a queer man growing up in Spain, he faced significant challenges in embracing his homosexuality. This series is a poignant reflection of his journey toward self-acceptance and personal growth, with the male figure serving as a powerful symbol of his experiences.
Deconstructions takes viewers through a vivid exploration of colour within deconstructed daily landscapes and childhood memories. Having relocated from Spain to Holland due to the economic crisis, Alberto often finds himself reimagining his past life in Spain. This series is deeply personal, capturing the essence of his memories, especially as his mother began to lose hers to Alzheimer's shortly after their move. Through these works, Alberto bridges his past and present, preserving cherished moments.
In Gradients, Alberto focuses on monochrome gradients within repetitive shapes. The simplicity of the series is juxtaposed with its striking contrast, creating a captivating visual experience. This exploration of gradients demonstrates Alberto's mastery of subtlety and form, inviting viewers to contemplate the interplay of colour and shape.
Join us at Toqueur from August 7th to experience the evocative works of Alberto Calero López.
